Right to Work passes Indiana House 54-44
In an historic vote on January 25, the Indiana House of Representatives passed a Right to Work bill 54-44. It now moves to the Senate, and if approved, will go to the Governor.
With the legislature nearing the midpoint of the session this timing is crucial for final approval.
There has been some media errors about the construction carveout issue. This amendment was offered in both Houses and defeated by the House and Senate. There was a second amendment that did pass that referred to the construction industry which passed. It reaffirmed that this state law would not and could not supersede federal labor law that currently protects current collective bargaining rights of construction unions. This was what some media sources got confused.
The support of you the members through ABC’s grassroots action center has been tremendous. The legislators have heard your voices. But we are not over the finish line yet, so keep up your active support to make Indiana the nation’s 23rd Right to Work state.
